PROTOCOLS All honour, glorification and sanctification are all due to the Almighty Allah, the nourisher of our lives, the master of the judgement's day, the Alpha and Omega and of course , the custodian of souls, for counting us worthy amongst the living today. We say Alhamdulillah robil aalameen. What a great privilege being in the midst of elders and youths of our great town, to reflect on the time past, discuss the present and navigate through a better future. It's indeed a priceless opportunity. It baffles mind when the custodian of meat is found struggling with bones. It’s unfortunate when dealer of clothing appear unclad or tattered. Its worrisome when rich cry. What could have being the cause of the aforementioned? Insanity or self stringiness? The right answer could only be provided by the victim. One of the numerous questions I ask myself on this land is, Why are we so blessed, but so poor? Developments pass us by easily on many occasions. And the more I am...

HOUR OF REFLECTION: A ROADMAP TO A BETTER AND SANER POLITICS IN ISEYIN COMMUNITY. A KEYNOTE ADDRESS DELIVERED BY NURENI OYEWOLE FADARE, Ph.D, MLSN fadnur982@gmail.com +234 7037785519 ON AUGUST 1, 2020 Observation of protocols, It is a great privilege for me to be invited here by Iseyin Youth Development Group to reflect on the politics of Iseyin with a view to charting a new course for our dear city. It is obvious that “the unexamined life is not worthy living” (Socrates).  Therefore, as a people of vision, it is pertinent for us to always reflect on how we govern ourselves so that our intention of leaving this society bequeathed to us by our ancestors, better than the way it was handed to us, will be achieved. The word “politics” is getting more complicated everyday. It transcends mere process through which a society is governed. It encompasses all the social activities revolving around the social interrelationship among the people of a society. It also includes the ec...

Empowerment OR Enslavement?

Image
Empowerment OR Enslavement? A puzzle to be solved by our Political Office Holders. My Oxford Dictionary defined Empowerment as, The granting of political, social or economic power to an individual or group. It could also be defined as, The process of supporting another person or persons to discover and claim personal power, according to the same dictionary. Kudos to the Senator representing Oyo North Senatorial district, Fatai Buhari for his purported empowerment programme and others that have done the same in the past. I give it to them for at least, they did something. But the question is.....Is that much we deserve? No! Is that the much they can do? No!  What percentage of the constituency populace benefited from the gift? 0.0000001%, was the right beneficiary targeted? No! Rather, It was based on party and cabal selection. Have now began to doubt the correctness of my dictionary, since what our political office holders coined as empowerment is nothing close to it, but ...

An Open letter to PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI

An Open letter to PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI, President and Commander-in- Chief of the Armed forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria. Let me first commend your government for the proactive approach towards the Boko Haram insurgents and your serial fulfilment of bring back our girls campaign promise, its indeed an applaudable achievement. I need to also commend you for giving us Ahmed Ibraheem Alli to sanitise the Nigerian Custom Service, it's very thoughtful of you sir. It's also worthy to note that your government has in a way sanitize the public sector, through your anti-corruption programme thus relieving some corrupt public office holders of their portfolios and landed some in jail, Baba it is awesomely meritorious. That said your Excellency, it is very appalling and saddening that humans' blood has become an ordinary sachet water that can be spilled at will by the Fulani headsmen without anybody talking. Yesterday was a mourning day in Benue state where 78 bodies we...

An Open letter to the Chairman, Iseyin Weavers Association, Iseyin.

An Open letter to the Chairman, Iseyin Weavers Association, Iseyin. Dear Sir, RE: IF WE DON'T PEG IT, WE MAY LOSE IT. May I start this by applauding your humble self and every member of your cabinet for organizing the 1st and 2nd Ofi day, which eventually caught the attention of the state government and thus gave birth to the establishment of Aso-Oke international market and Tourist centre, on our own soil. This is indeed applaudable! How great would this have been, if you actually consolidate so firmly on the recorded landmark? Not only that the proposed market would have been materialized but would have also changed the face of our dear city, added to her economy valour, ushered in more investors of different brand and alas! Would have also added more feathers to the crown of your own led Association, ' The Aso-Oke weavers. Apologies to Benjamin Franklin who said and I quote, that "Being ignorant is not so much a shame, as being unwilling to learn". It...

If we don't peg it, we may loose it....For the attention of Iseyin Aso Oke weavers Association. Let me first of all congratulate you and the entire Iseyinans on the establishment and laying of Aso-Oke International tourist Market's foundation on our dear land. It is indeed a plus to the town and the state at large, hence we need to peg it. It is no more news that an international market has been established by the state government and the foundation had been laid on our soil. It is then not wrong if we can start putting up some stores, even if made with wood planks to display our wares instead of continuance visitation of 'Ero Ibadan' for the sole purpose of selling our wares, this would be tantamount to retrogression, and same wouldn't augur well for our space. Ceasing of Iseyin Aso-Oke weavers to patronise 'Ero Ibadan to sell their wares will undoubtedly compel the state government to fast track the construction and commissioning of the market as ea...

Silence! An unsuspected slow killer

Silence! An unsuspected slow killer.....(A phemomenon of Aso-Oke International Market and Tourism Centre, Iseyin). Let me quickly refer us to one of my articles, "If we don't peg it, we may loose it" a couple of weeks ago, pointing at the need for weavers Association to reduce or cancel their patronage of "Ero Ibadan" for display of their wares. Perhaps the message did not get to them or they believe it's no the right time to swing into action as advised. May you please recall that, this purported international market was not the first Capital intensive project penciled for Iseyin, but for being too addict of "What would be, would be", we lose them.  It's apparent that the trend is at the verge of repeating self again, if a drastic measure is not employed to get the project pinned down. I refuse to believe the thought that the State Government is playing on our integrity, if not, the Contractor is expected to have been mobilized t...
