Why NOT a Living wage INSTEAD of Minimum wage?

Why NOT a Living wage INSTEAD of Minimum wage?

It's so disheartening when an average Nigerian wallows in abject poverty, pains and agony not because they are not working, but for non commensurable #takeHome that can not take them home. Beautiful as the recent presidential assent to the #30,000 minimum wage could be, it's still not adequate for an economy like ours. Recall that the Nigeria Labour Congress over the years pushed for #56,000 minimum wage, but retired to fate when the tripartite committee eventually ratified the payment of #30,000 take home.

Unfortunate it should be called, when Nigerians are still being colonised in our own country by our own selves. 2019 budget got padded by almost 90 Billion Naira from which will cater for about #24million each, for Reps and Senators retirement benefit, sadly, just a #56000 can't be paid. What a country! What are leaders!

When the news broke out for the Bill's approval by the National Assembly, while some people were rejoicing, I was completely very sad for I know, that's not the worth of Nigeria's workers. A quick check of how commensurate is #30,000 in our country Nigeria, with this very intimidating economy. A Civil servant with a wife and four kids for example. Can anyone tell me how less than #1000 per day be spent by the sampled family? Not forgetting the house rent, school fees of the 4 children, clothing, medical etc. Tell me how we can rule out corruption in that stance.

More obvious as the above analysis could be, NLC and TUC have consented to the satanic #30,000 proposal. It should rather be a living wage and not minimum wage. Living wage would always be workable no matter how provoking the economy is. For it would take into consideration the medical, feeding, shelter, and other miscellaneous bills.

On this Occasion of Workers day, may the Almighty God of Labour reward them beyond measures and touch the conscience of Nigerian leaders to be conscious of workers effort towards the development of the land and pay them commensurately. If corruption must evade this country, a high premium must be placed on workers' welfare.
