Lest I forget
Lest I forget
~ A Congratulatory/ Advisory message to the State House of Assembly Member Elect, Representing Iseyin/ Itesiwaju state constituency. (Hon. Surv. Adeola Dele)
Dear Honourable,
May I stand on the existing congratulatory messages and good wishes earlier established by your loyalists, fans and good people of our dear constituency, since you were returned elected as the Honourable member representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju State constituency in the state Assembly. It was indeed a very clean contest which portrayed the masses' noble position, and a display of undiluted trust in your prospective representation. May you be guided aright to leverage on this trust, deliver on the mandate bequeathed on you, without leaving any iota of regrets in people's heart.
If you wouldn't mind honourable, I would like to quickly drop some few lines of admonitions like I did for those that have occupied this office before you, perhaps you may need to fall back on them at some points, during your period of stay in office.
First and foremost, I hope you will agree with me that your victory is not in anyway by your making, popularity or influence. It is purely divine. For you actually contested with people of more influence, wealth and power. I hope you will always consider this at every point of your representation.
Dear Hon. It is also important I tell you that your predecessor has performed his own bit to the best of his ability. Do not despise his relevance. For he may be part of resources you need to excel in your new office. It may also interest you that he once chaired a key committee in the State Assembly, he knows what you may not know in legislation owing to his experience in the house for the last 4 years. I believe he would be ready to share his experience with you when consulted, and same can facilitate rapid delivery on electorates' expectations.
Further more, may you also be reminded of how sacrosanct is it to always remember and not to renege on your campaign promises. You may need to check the points listed below for your use, if considered necessary.
1. History has it that Iseyin never had a merged constituency with Itesiwaju, this only happened when some gladiators want to remain relevant politically in the 2 constituencies, thereby wrote a letter for a merger, same was honoured and here we are till date. You need to launch an operation "Take it back" in the house, such that Iseyin and Itesiwaju will operate separate constituencies as it was in the past.
2. Do consolidate and pressurize the state government on the need for the Federal Government to revamp the Ikere - George Dam. This can be achieved with little efforts as the federal government has recently enlisted the dam as one of the it's kind awaiting revamping.
3. Be a facilitator or a party to the the process that will metamorphose the hanging lake of Ado-Awaye to a tourist centre. This will increase the state's internally generated revenue and shall in turn boosts the economy of the region.
4. One of the best things that can happen to us now, is the establishment of Institution of higher learning, let the same be materialised during your days in office.
5. Create good time to mingle with common man in the constituency to know where the shoe pinches and organise town hall meetings to enable feedback and reactions.
6. Your loyalists will always tell you what you want to hear at the expense of the masses. So, if you are in need of a truthful feedback and self evaluation, don't use your loyalists.
7. The best time to achieve most is the 1st 100 days in office. Explore these days and you can always build on it later. Don't wait till the last minute before you perform, start as early as possible.
8. On human empowerment programmes, distributions of items is not synonymous to an empowerment. It can only be one, if and only if it's benefited by the real needy. You can always consult the traders association for the effectiveness of this, but monitoring same to the latter is also very paramount.
9. As our ambassador from this constituency, always ensure you sponsor and support bills that can bring tremendous progress to this constituency. We don't mind if you are to step on toes, for nothing good comes easy.
10. If I know nothing about you at all, I know you were very accessible before and during electioneering campaigns, you can also do better after your emergence, through constituency offices and attending to calls of your constituency members.
11. Lastly, always remember that no one is interested in knowing the process or procedures you went through, all they need is results. So, lobbying is allowed when it comes to bringing home dividends of democracy. You can always do anything humanly and legally possible to achieve this.
Finally, permit me to end this piece by Abraham Lincoln saying thus, "This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it, or exercise their revolutionary right to overthrow it". As we look forward to having an effective representation through you, do remember that the constituency that make you has the right and power to mar you when you stray. Once again, may you be guided aright as we wish you a very best stay in Office.
Yours faithfully,
