An Open letter to the Federal House of Representative Member Elect, Representing Iseyin/Iwajowa/Kajola/Itesiwaju Federal constituency. (Hon. Shina Abiola Peller).
Dear Honourable,
May I first of all congratulate you for the well contested race and for your emergence as the Hon. Representative Elect, for our dear Federal Constituency, in the Lower Chamber of National Assembly Abuja. It is indeed a thing of joy to you, your family members and your army of supporters especially those that entrusted their votes in you. I also join this multitude to felicitate with you, pray your emergence be a highly progressively symbolic in the history of this constituency and may you be divinely guided aright to fulfil the purpose of your election.
Having said that, I would like to quickly drop some few lines of admonitions, perhaps same may be useful at one point or the other, during your days in office.
First and foremost, I hope for the few period of your electioneering and campaigns, you must have studied the political structure in our dear constituency particularly in Iseyin, and you must have been convinced that your emergence has nothing to do with influence, wealth or party. But because people want a new face or perhaps they felt they were not maximally represented by your predecessor. This stride of yours could be likened to a rare agape love from people of this constituency and timely reciprocation of this kind gesture is very key and paramount.
Dear Rep. Elect, if speaking truth has not become a crime, I must lay it bare here that your predecessor has performed wonderfully well in his own capacity, especially towards the end of his tenure as Rep. Do associate yourself with him, for he knows what you may not know in legislation especially, as in the case of Nigeria's 8th National Assembly , for experience they say is the best teacher. I believe he would be ready to divulge some information to you in respect to the National Assembly, his pending projects and host of other stuff that can help your rapid delivery on electorates' expectations.
Further more, I need to also remind you not to renege on your campaign promises. You may need to digest the points listed below for further actions:
1. Let there be a continuation of your philanthropic and benevolent acts initiated during campaign.
2. Create good time to mingle with common man in the constituency to know where the shoe pinches.
3. Organise town hall meetings to enable feedback and reactions.
4. Don't wait till the last minute before you perform, start as early as possible.
5. As much as possible, chose to ask masses questions about your performance instead of your loyalists, for they (your loyalists)may want to tell you what you want to hear at the expense of the masses.
6. In the event of human empowerment programmes, don't misinterpret items' distributions for empowerment. It can only be one, if and only if it's benefited by the real needy. You can always consult the traders association for the effectiveness of this, but following same to the latter is also very paramount.
7. As an ambassador of Iseyin in the House, always ensure you sponsor and support bills that can bring tremendous progress to Iseyin and the constituency at large. We crave for Federal government's presence on this axis, let the same be materialised during your days in office. Please note, stepping on toes is very crucial if the need be.
8. Much as you were approachable and accessible during electioneering, you can also do better after your emergence, through constituency offices and attending to calls of your constituency members, for they were machineries of the Almighty used to bring you this far.
8. Lastly, it should be noted that, Lobbying is allowed when it comes to bringing home dividends of democracy, you can do anything humanly and legally possible to achieve that. Always remember that no one is interested in knowing the process, all they need is results.
In conclusion, I presume you understand that Iseyin/Iwajowa/Kajola/Itesiwaju people are getting wiser by the day, and would not be reluctant in calling you back home if you failed them. Once again, may you be guided aright as we wish you a very best stay in Office.
Yours faithfully,
Babajide Oniyo
